Its mission is to be a cultural spot in the northeast Valley and provide a venue for local artists to display and sell their work.
In the past seven years, the gallery has drawn collectors from throughout the Valley and the greater Los Angeles area. Its popularity has spread statewide and serves as an exhibition venue for many members of the California Art Club, from Associate, Mentor, Artist and Signature levels of its membership. To date, La Galeria Gitana has hosted guest artists outside of Los Angeles from areas as diverse as San Diego, San Bernardino, Orange, Riverside, Ventura, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, San Mateo, Sonoma, Mendocino, Butte and Humboldt Counties as well as from the neighboring states of Nevada and Arizona.
The new gallery director, Angela Phillips, has formed a nonprofit, ARTreach91340, to work with the gallery. The nonprofit will use part of the gallery as a workshop area for art classes. Classes will be designed to inspire and provide fun educational art experiences including the opportunity to display and sell artwork in a fine-art gallery setting. Scholarships will be available for disadvantaged families.
The gallery is quiet, off the main street, conveniently located, and close to a few good restaurants.
The current show, “Music for the Eyes: Color, Texture, Movement, Rhythm, Harmony,” depicts the subject of music in an interesting way. It runs through February 5.
